How to choose a polyurethane sheen. High Gloss, Semi Gloss, or Satin Wood Floor Finish

The three standard floor finishes for hardwood floors are:

  • High Gloss Polyurethane – is suitable for floors with low-traffic rooms such as sitting rooms, guest bedrooms, and formal living rooms.
  • Semi-Gloss Polyurethane – ideal for flooring in moderate-to-high traffic areas, such as family rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, kitchens & foyers.
  • Satin Polyurethane –is the prefered choice  for high-traffic areas, including kitchens and foyers, because it hides scratches better than all other sheens of polyurethane. The satin sheen is quickly becoming the more popular choice in wood flooring finishes because many people prefer the less lustrous and natural look of the sheen and the superiority in hiding blemishes.
Satin polyurethane is what many hardwood contractors use for their own homes, and will be great in yours too if you want your wood floors to stay looking better longer.
